5 Capiceño achievers honored at LGU Night

  ROXAS CITY— The provincial government of Capiz is set to recognize outstanding Capiceños during this year’s Sinadya sa Halaran celebration.

Five Capiceño achievers will be named as outstanding Capiceños in time for the LGU Night dubbed as “Gab-i sang Pagpasalamat” on December 7, provincial administrator Zoe Herrera said, adding that two institutions in the province will also be honored.

Herrera said that the provincial government here for many years already has been recognizing outstanding individuals and institutions who have given due honor and prestige to Capiz and the entire people of the province.

Named as outstanding Capiceños this year include Melvin Barroa, a former student of Capiz National High School, who was named one of Intel young scientist awardees of the Philippines who was cited by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo during her State-of-the-Nation Address in July this year, and Regional Trial Court Judges Manuel Barrios and Roger Patricio, who were also adjudged as among the 2007 outstanding judges of the Philippines .

Other outstanding Capiceños and entities this year are former Supreme Court Justices Josue Bellosillo and Santiago Kapunan, Capiz National High School-Special Science Class and the local government unit of Dumarao town.

Dr. Miglaros Balgos, who served as the Vice Governor of Capiz in 1992 to 1995 and former chief of the Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital , will also be honored through a Posthumous Award.

The LGU Night, which is a gathering of all municipal, city and provincial officials in Capiz, is one of the highlights of the Sinadya sa Halaran festival of Capiz set on December 5 to 9 with the theme ” Sulong kita sa progreso, kay labi sa tanan ang tawo ang maka benepisyo”.

This year’s Search Committee for the Outstanding Capiceños is chaired by Herrera with Dr. Eveleth Gamboa of the Capiz Division’s Department of Education, Jemin Guillermo of Philippine Information Agency, Antonio Asis of the Provincial Planning and Development Office and board member Alfonso Bediones, Jr. as members.
